Colonialism Reparation calls on France to aknowledge the colonial genocide and apologize to Algeria.

On October 17, 2012 the French president François Hollande affirms about the massacre of October 17 1961 that: “The Republic recognizes these facts with lucidity. I pay homage to victims fifty-one years later”.

On October 23, 2012 the French Senate adopts resolution 14-2012 calling for the recognition of the massacre and the construction of a place of remembrance for the victims of the October 17, 1961.

On October 30, 2012 the Algerian Minister of the war veterans Mohamed Chérif Abbas demands a “frank acknowledgement of the crimes committed against Algerian people during French colonialism”.

Despite these recent events are an important first step toward change , we must remember that in the fifty years following independence of Algeria France has never recognized its responsibility for the colonial genocide and has tried to stop Algerian initiatives that recently have moved in this direction.

Colonialism Reparation calls then on France to aknowledge the colonial genocide and apologize to Algeria, overcoming those internal resistances that still prevent France from going beyond its “imperial” past.
