Jamaica - Colonialism
The celebrations of the 200th Anniversary of Jamaica in 2007 invigorate the debate on reparation. In this period, the Parliament debates a resolution on the issue of reparations promoted by Mr Lester Michael Henry and creates a parliamentary committee to define the proposals for action. Nevertheless, at the end of the parliamentary session, the commission ceases to exist.
The Government creates then in place of it the national Commission on reparations with the aim of proposing the form or the forms that reparations may have and to receive testimonies by public and experts in order to establish a national approach to reparations. The Commission, made up of government's experts and representatives, was convened for the first time on May 2009 and the final report, to be delivered to the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sport, is expected in 2011.
